Multiple COE products have gained UK Network Rail approval to be used in safety critical environments over rail networks. One such environment for application is Level Crossings.
Project brief
COE have provided equipment for rail networks varying from small installations to infastructures requiring transmission equipment for thousands of cameras. One application for which COE products have become invaluable is monitoring level crossings for breaches by individuals, vehicles or foreign objects to ensure that trains are safe to pass through without hindrance.
Analysis
COE’s Network Rail approved codecs have been installed in a large number of level crossings around the world. System reliability and quality of image is very important for level crossing applications, and COE excels in these fields. Our products may be installed over existing networks, and as such, this has greatly enhanced the ease of integration of our products in use for rail network applications.
Solution
Video feed is captured by cameras at the level crossing and then transmitted via fibre optic link using COE’s E-Class and Series 300 rail approved products to remote signal boxes, where operators monitor the area and can warn of potential obstructions at the crossing. Main and diverse route wirings are employed to ensure system integrity should a codec fail or a line become compromised.
