Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia, selected COE for a major CCTV surveillance and management system upgrade and expansion.

Project brief

Due to expansion of facilities to incorporate new ticketing areas, baggage halls, check-in and passenger terminal areas, Malaysian Airlines Systems selected COE Ltd as supplier of choice for a comprehensive CCTV upgrade at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Analysis

COE determined the appropriate infastructure upgrade was to utilise fibre optic transmission equipment to support 370 additional cameras to be added to the existing COE system.

Solution

COE supplied high capacity CWDM optical multiplexers and laser technology to achieve a multi-point tree and branch design supporting real-time high quality video, telemetry control data, alarm and diagnostic information. The completed system uses just ten single fibres. Networked Telecommand CCTV controllers were also used to provide switching and operation of both the 500 legacy and 370 new cameras.

Benefits

Key operational benefits met by COE:

  • Digital transmission introduced into an analogue video system – enables gradual upgrade to newer technology at the choice of the User.
  • Single managed video infrastructure – reduced maintenance and training.
  • Highly flexible network topology allowing for massive system expansion.
  • Surveillance of any area from any of the control locations – incident management under evacuation scenarios where control locations may have to be vacated.
