COE was chosen to provide the video surveillance system at John F. Kennedy Airport, NY to aid operators in preventing crime, assisting the public and monitoring crowd movement and activity.
Project brief
JFK Airport on Long Island, NY is one of the major airports serving New York, USA. Ground transport bottlenecks resulted in the requirement for a light rail system linking the airport and the city. CCTV was to be commissioned for the 10 stations on this line.
Analysis
The 10 stations required up to 32 cameras located across the platforms of each station. An exceptionally high system reliability requirement was also necessary for this site, and so dual-redundancy was introduced. A high channel count per fibre was also specified to minimise fibre usage.
Solution
COE provided a dual redundant network incorporating the latest optical technology to support the needs of the client today and in the future. This is supported by a comprehensive management system supplied by COE to allow remote system wide monitoring and control.
Benefits
- Dual redundancy built into both the equipment and transmission paths, creating virtually 100% system reliability.
- High quality recording and viewing facilities.
- High channel count, minimising fibre usage.
- Automatic switching in less than one second at Central Control, keeping system downtime to an absolute minimum.
