COE provided the Hong Kong & China Border with surveillance equipment to monitor a 35Km stretch over 150 locations to prevent illegal immigrants entering the Hong Kong territory.

Project brief

The Hong Kong & China Border stretches approximately 35Km starting from Sha Tau Kok to the Mai Po Nature Reserve. The contract was awarded to Tyco Integrated Systems, with COE supplying a fibre optic based video solution.

Analysis

Several key parameters needed to be fulfilled for the transmission network: quality of transmitted image to enable high quality recording and viewing: high temperature endurance to guarantee optimal performance over the harsh environmental operating range: proven technology and high channel count to minimise fibre usage.

Solution

To cover the 35Km stretch, cameras were installed in 150 locations, each camera having PTZ control and video, data and audio signals returned to each of the three control rooms for viewing, control and recording. The control rooms are linked in a peer to peer relationship using COE equipment.
