Global video network specialist COE has appointed a new Head of Engineering.
Mike Higlett 35 joined COE in 1998 as Design Engineer and in 2000 took responsibility for the 2M MPEG-2 codec for the NEC project in Singapore. In 2002 Mike became an Engineering Development Team Leader, overseeing most hardware developments in the department and was also responsible for the introduction of COE’s latest development, the X-class Video codec.
Previously Mike worked for Aston University where he worked on a National Grid PLC funded project to improve reactive power compensation on the National Grid. Mike also undertook a major postgraduate research project into the resilience of emergency communications networks during major incidents. Given the importance of CCTV at major incidents this work has been carried forward into his activities at COE.
"As the CCTV industry migrates to digital transmission products I see my main focus is the development of new and updated products, working with both compressed and un-compressed images,” says Mike. “Having been with COE 7 years I have managed to combine my previous knowledge of emergency communications networks with the excellent CCTV application knowledge at COE, I aim to use these skills to achieve my focus, combined with sound project management techniques."
